Your CV, with no experience

A first CV isn’t about experience you don’t have. It’s about showing you’re worth a shot.

Keep it to one page. Nobody reads two from someone starting out.
Lead with what you’ve actually done: part-time jobs, school projects, volunteering, sport, side projects. Frame them as results, not duties.
Use numbers wherever you can. "Served 80+ customers a shift" beats "worked in a cafe."
Cut the objective statement and "references available on request." Dead space.
Mirror the words in the job ad. The first filter is often just a keyword scan.
Export a PDF named Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf, not "cv final v3.pdf".

Your LinkedIn

This is where recruiters look you up. Ten minutes here changes how you show up.

A real photo, looking at the camera, decent light. Your phone is fine.
Your headline isn’t your job title — it’s who you are and where you’re headed. "Aspiring salesperson who learns fast and shows up."
Write the About in first person, like you talk. Three short paragraphs: what you’re into, what you’ve done, what you want next.
Turn on "Open to work." Recruiters filter for exactly that.
Connect with people at places you’d want to work. A one-line human note beats a blank request.

Telling your story

Thin experience is fine if you can say, clearly, why you’d be good.

You’re not "just a student." You have a reason you’d be great — find it and say it plainly.
Show drive: what you taught yourself, what you built, what you kept showing up for.
Have a 20-second answer to "tell me about yourself" that isn’t your whole life story.
Be specific. "I closed the shop alone at 17" says more than "responsible and hardworking."

Landing the interview

Most applications vanish because of how they’re sent, not who sent them.

Apply fast. Early applicants get seen; roles fill from the top of the pile.
Don’t spray. Five real applications beat fifty copy-pastes.
A two-line message to a human at the company beats another form submission.
Follow up once, politely, after about a week. Persistence reads as interest.
Track where you’ve applied so you’re never caught off guard when they call.

The interview

It’s a conversation, not an interrogation. Preparation is what makes you calm.

Spend 15 minutes on the company. Know what they do and why you’d fit.
Prepare three short stories: a time you worked hard, solved something, worked with others.
Ask questions back. It shows you actually care about the place.
Nerves are normal. Slow down, breathe, it’s fine to take a second before answering.
Send a short thank-you after. Most people don’t — you’ll stand out.
